スクエアビル・クランクベイトの魅力とは？科学的アプローチで解き明かす釣果の秘密

まずはアクションを説明する。２０年以上前に発売された コットンコーデルの 「ビック・オー」から、近年でもクラシックウィニングルアーとなった 「RC 1.5」までと スクエアビルクランク の釣果実績は高い。釣れる秘密は動きにある 写真は同じルアーを同期撮影したモノとなる。まず右の ボトム から見たルアーのアクションに注目してみてほしい。ルアーは ただ左右に触れている。そして左の サイド から見たルアーの アクション は アイを中心に明らかな ローリングモーション が描かれている。(substantial rolling motion) 同じルアーなのに魚から見る角度によってルアーのアクションが全く違う。ローリングのアクションに もたらされる恩恵は２つある。１つは 強烈なフラッシングを発生させる。そしてもう一つは根掛かりを回避できるという事だ。

次に バスの捕食 のメカニズム と ルアーの動作の関係を説明する。まず ブラックバスは 餌を吸い込む(suction feeding) 捕食スタイルだ。それ故に 餌が止まった時 や 方向転換 をした時のみに餌を吸い込む事が可能となる。動いている餌は吸いにくい。この スクエアビルクランク を使って魚に口を使わせる方法は ただ一つ「ストップ＆ゴー」にある。ルアーを巻いて障害物に当てた時(例：ウッドやリップラップ)でも アクション は ストップ にあたる。つまり ストップ というのは魚が 方向転換する 前運動 だと思ってくれれば良いだろう。

最後に解り安く 検証結果の動画を紹介する。最初のアクションは ただ止まらず巻いていく ルアー。そして次は バスの前で ストップ を入れたアクションとなる。ブラックバス は「一瞬の隙間」というアクション に 瞬時に反応しやすい。バイトの瞬間は 僅かに 0.12秒 と攻撃的に早いのだ。ルアーのフックも大きい方が 時として有効になるだろう。ルアーの 起動がズレた事を 歪み(マイナス) と捉えずに バイトチャンス と覚えておくと良いだろう。
