アーロンマーティンス のスポンサーでもある “Gamakatsu” ガマカツフック。ガマカツ社は 日本の会社 (現シンガポール) なのだが、ガマカツUSA では全く 違う製品 [商品] が 独自展開 されており 日本では 手に入らない 良質な “ブツ” が 多数ラインナップされている。今回は バスマスターの 過去記事＆動画 にて アーロン が ガマフック５選 を 某記者に紹介していますので、要点要訳紹介です。英文も起こしておきますので 参考 までにどうぞ。

アーロンマーティンス 彼は ２０１８年 ２月 現時点で ３億２千万円以上 稼いだ トーナメント バスアングラー となる。彼の 持ち味 はなんといっても “自然体ナチュラリスト” として 釣りが出来る事であろう。もっと簡単にいうと 本能 で魚を探し 魚を釣り得る事ができる バスプロ なんだと筆者は思う。反対に 彼は 少し変わった一面を持つ 選手 でもある。例えば ボート上では 気配を消すために 日本製の地下足袋 を装着、及び 靴を脱いだりした。[画像] はたまた 試合で使用する フロロカーボンライン の入ったボックスを幾つも レストランに持ち込んでは 自分の席の横に置いて食事を済ませ ライン が車中で熱くなるのを 避けさせていた…なんて事もあった。そんな彼が一番といっていい程の コダワリ を見せているのが “フック” である。本来、稼業である 商売道具 を公開する事は 御法度 であるが、特別に 公開 させて頂く事にする。
1.Gamakatsu Rebarb
通常、彼が使用するフックが ガマカツリバーブ となる。オーソドックスなベントカーブ (O’shaugnessy*) に 細いワイヤーで構成されたフックだ。直ぐに飲まれてしまうが、長年の技術で瞬時にペンチで外す。大概のワームはこのフックをセットして、ダウンショットは より軽いサイズへ 交換。キャロライナリグ や テキサスリグ で使用する場合には サイズアップ でギャップを広げていく。バレる事は そうそう にないという。*O’Shaugnessy(オショフネシー、オショーネシー) は 典型的なフック。開発した人の名前 が付けられている。 [画像]
2.Gamakatsu 2X Strong Short Shank Round Bend Treble
アーロン の 一番の お気に入り なフックがこの ガマカツ ２X ストロング ショートシャンク ベンド トレブル だそうな。彼が使用するハードベイトには全てこのフックが装着されている。フックのシャンクが短く、ルアーと魚の距離を近ずける事により バラし が軽減される といったフックになる。
3.Gamakatsu Superline O’Shaugnessy Worm Hook
アーロンが ソフトベイト をフリッピングしていく時に使うフックが ガマカツ スーパーライン オ・ショフネシー ワームフック となる。写真はオフセットだが、ストレートタイプもある。彼はこのスタイルのモノを好んで使用する。そして使用する際には ペンチでフック先を１度程広げて使用する。また PEライン で使用する時には スネルノット で使用する。５０cmクラス の バスを掛けても曲げられた事はないと言う。
4.Gamakatsu Split Shot
アーロンが 試合中に喰いが渋くなった時にリグる ダウンショット。使用するフックは ガマカツ スプリットショット 1/0 こちらのフックも 使用する際には ペンチでフック先を１度程広げてチューンする。１２〜１４ポンドのフロロライン が標準となる。
5.Gamakatsu heavy Cover Flippin’ Hook
最後は ガマカツ ヘビーカバー フリッピング フック 名前からして ヘビーカバー対応のフックなのだが、彼は ワイドギャップのフック は ヘビーカバー には使わないのだと言う。理由は一つで ワイドギャップ が カバー類 のゴミを拾ってしまい フックアウト してしまうからだそうだ。彼は ワイドギャップのフックは スイムベイト に最も適していると言う。もしくは スーパーバルキーなワームを使用する時だけに このフックを使用するという。余談だが、このフックをペンチで曲げたモノを アンドレムーア が使用して、ガマカツ社にOEM依頼。そして出来上がったのが、リアクションイノベーションズ社 の BMF フリッピングフック(現廃盤)となった。[画像]

Aaron martens is one of the best “natural” fishermen there is. In other words, he’s got some of the best instincts on tour and thinks so much like a fish that at times he forgets he doesn’t have gills. Besides great instincts, Martenn’ meticulous nature regarding terminal tackle makes it easy for him to capitalize on his intuition. he even takes fluorocarbon into restaurants with him so it doesn’t get hot in his truck, which damages the fragile line. but, we’re here to tail hooks, so here are his five favorites.
1.Gamakatsu rebarb
This thin-wire hook is his go-to for many soft plastics. it’s gore a classic O’shaugnessy bend that he sasy goes into a fish’s mouth easily, but takes some effort to dislodge. he usually has to resort to pliers to unhook bass that bite a bait armed with this hook, but he doesn’t mind. “These are awesome; I rarely lose a fish with them. I got a lot of the elite guys throwing these – even if they won’t admit it!” size ramie from No.1 to 4/0, and he uses the lighter sizes for drop shooting and wider gaps for texas and carolina rigging.
2.Gamakatsu 2X Strong Short Shank Round Bend Treble
“This is the most important hook I use,” he says. “I put it on all of my reaction baits – crankbaits, rattle baits and the like.” These trebles have a shorter shank than traditional trebles, which keep the points of the hook closer to the bait, so he can’t hardly throw it when he shakes his head or jumps. These are the best trebles made – ever.”
3. Gamakatsu Superline O’Shaugnessy Worm Hook
This hook is what Martens uses to flip soft plastics. he prefers it over the monster-gapped hooks because this hook penetrates a fish’s jaw; there isn’t a lot of hook showing on the outside of the bass’ mouth, which, in turn, can get hung on logs, grass or other debris. he will, however, open up the point a bit to expose the tip more. if flipping with heavy braid, Martens will snell this hook. “it has a good size barb on it and holds the worm really well. I’ve never straightened one out, eve boat flipping 6- pounders.”
4. Gamakatsu Split Shot
This hook is what Martens uses when he’s nose-hooking drop shot baits or wacky worming. He uses 1/0 most often with 12-to 14-pound-test line. he’s fishing lighter line, he goes with a No.1. He’ll open it up a bit for a better hook up ratio.
5. Gamakatsu heavy Cover Flippin’ Hook
Despite its name, Martens doesn’t flip heavy cover with this hook. He says the super-wide gap will grab detritus as it’s dragging bass through heavy cover. However, he says It’s the best flipping and pitching and soft jerkbait hook there is – if the cover is sparse. “the barb is perfect and the gap positions the point in just the right spot for a perfect hook set,” he says. “I bent the original Heavy Cover Flippin’ Hook out of a Superline Worm Hook, gave it to Andre Moore and he had Gamakatsu make it into the BMF. They’re great hooks.” This is his choice for Texas and Carolina rigging thick soft plastic as well.
History of Gamakatsu.
Gamakatsu started producing hooks in Japan in 1955. At that time each hook was made and sharpened by hand. Since then, Gamakatsu has steadily researched new materials and tempering processes to produce one of the finest fish hooks in the world. They have captured 70% of the Japanese hook market and a huge share of the United States and world markets as well. The engineers at Gamakatsu use high-carbon steel to form the wire the hook is made from because steel with a high carbon content is much stronger and harder and since it is harder it can be sharpened to a much finer point. Some of the best and sharpest knives in the world are made from high-carbon steel for the same reason. After the wire is drawn it is cut and formed in the hook shape and tempered using a high-tech electronic heating process and then quenched in oil to bring out the perfect balance of hardness and flexibility. Hooks that are too hard are brittle and will break under high stress and hooks that are too soft will bend and straighten out under a load and not hold a good point. Since high-carbon steel can corrode or rust easily these hooks are finished with black or bronze anodizing or tinned producing the distinctive colors Gamakatsu hooks are available in today. The excellent quality control and high tech facilities that Gamakatsu uses ensures a high level of consistency from hook to hook and year to year so you can be confident the hook you take out of the pack you bought and tie on will be the best possible hook or it wouldn’t have the name: Gamakatsu.
